How to take consistent skin progress photos

A simple setup for repeatable face photographs that are easier to compare without over-controlling your life.

01

Use light you can reproduce

Face a diffuse window or use the same soft indoor light. Avoid a bright window behind you, strong side shadows and mixed-colour lighting.

Do not use beauty filters, portrait retouching or automatic enhancements that change texture or tone.

02

Match the face and camera position

Keep the lens at the same height and use the same distance. Capture a relaxed front view and the requested side views without tilting or stretching the neck.

Move hair away from the regions you want to compare and keep the expression neutral.

03

Record conditions instead of hiding them

If you are wearing makeup, have just exercised or used a new product, note it or wait for a more comparable time. A truthful note is better than silently forcing unlike photos into one comparison.
