How to take consistent body progress photos

Control light, distance, angle, clothing and pose so later photographs are easier to compare.

01

Fix the camera before fixing the pose

Place the phone at a repeatable height and distance. Use a stable surface or another person rather than changing the camera angle between views.

Keep the full body in frame with some space around it. Avoid wide-angle distortion from placing the camera unusually close.

02

Choose deliberately ordinary lighting

Use even light that you can reproduce. Strong side light, overhead shadows and bright windows behind you can change the apparent outline and skin tone.

The most flattering setup is not necessarily the most comparable setup. Repeatability is the goal.

03

Match clothing and stance

Wear close-fitting clothing that shows the exterior outline without requiring nudity. Stand in the same relaxed posture and avoid deliberately flexing, twisting or pulling the stomach in.

Capture all four views in one session so the set represents the same conditions.

CHECKLIST

Keep this check-in repeatable.

  1. Same camera height
  2. Same camera distance
  3. Even repeatable light
  4. Similar close-fitting clothing
  5. Relaxed matched pose
  6. Front, left, back and right
